âWhile walking through the palace, I had memories of being here with Father when I was younger, but it was only when I met you that I remembered why we came here that day. He wanted me to see where you worked and let you teach me about the history of our kingdomâs palace, and all I wanted to do was play in the palace grounds.â
Paragamus laughed lightly. The pair was walking along one of the palaceâs great corridors towards the Treasure Chamber with only the ethereal glow of the spirit to light the treacherous labyrinth.
[I remember that day fondly. I saw so much of my son in you, and I still do. Eventually, you did come inside, and I showed you the upper levels of the palace. You were so inquisitive, so innocent and far happier. Alas, those days have left us now.]
âI remember that not long after that visit, you passed away.â
[Fortune blessed me with a second chance so that I may stand with you once more.]
âWhy did you choose to return as this creature instead of your Zenorian form?â
[After drawing my last breath,] Paragamus reminisced, [I remember passing into shadows, but I would not wander that cold maze for eternity. Lord Salvidawn, King of the Anmorian Guardians, appeared to me in a burst of light. He spoke of a great war in the making, one that would inevitably consume Zenor. In that darkness, there would remain hope in the heart of a Zenorian-born warrior, but that soldier would need assistance on his journey. To do his part, Lord Salvidawn granted past kings the choice to fight for Zenor after their passing into the Spirit Realm. Although I was not a king, he knew that you would lead our people through the darkness and asked me to be your guide when you came home. He has seen your coming for the past three millennia, my child.]
Rezaaran found this prospect to be both overwhelming and humbling. He activated his internal cooling systems and helmet as they passed through a stone double door.
[However, we would not serve as mere spirits,] Paragamus continued the story of his return. [We had to endure the ages and be capable of great power to protect what would matter most in the coming darkness. Lord Salvidawn granted us access to the powers of the Royal Spring. The magic from this holy site immortalised us in a water form. However, beyond endurance, we needed a means to fight in order to protect the property of the throne. As the spirit chosen to patrol these corridors until your arrival, it was my duty to defend you from evil. I, therefore, requested Lord Salvidawn to incarnate me as a Prowler. Prowlers are a race of highly evolved, wolf-like creatures that naturally exhibit telepathy and heightened agility. In this form, I could perform my duty as a sentinel in the depths of the palace.]
âWhat were you charged to protect?â asked Rezaaran as they entered a warm, dusty corridor lit by flaming torches along the walls.
